At Christmastime we ponder and reflect:
The Father sent His son to show the way.
He conquered death and ransomed us from sin.
He beckons us a new life to begin.

And, witnessing the Father’s love, we may
Ask how to best express our gratitude.
In quiet moments comes a soft reply,
“Draw near and let us reason, you and I.”

It’s possible this discourse might include,
“Though some may say I have no want or need,
I have a simple wish list I’ll reveal,
Some ways you might express the love you feel.”

“I would be pleased if you would choose to lead
A happy life, a life free of regret.
Your soul will soar aloft to marvelous heights.
And in your soul’s great joy, my soul delights.”

“If you should err or sin, if you forget
The way of happiness, if you should drift
Away from me, oh then my soul will yearn
For you to sense your peril and return.”

“Through Christ’s atonement you may have a gift,
A cleansing, healing balm of forgiveness,
If you obey him and if you extend
Forgiveness unto those who may offend.”

“If you encounter someone in distress,
Some lowly one whose grief you might console,
Would you reach down to help that person rise?
Such service would be precious in my eyes .”

What should I give to Him whom I extol,
As I upon the coming year embark.
To live a joyful life? To serve? To live
In peace with others I choose to forgive.

To light a shining candle in the dark,
To give one shelter from a wintry storm,
To comfort someone who is weak or small
Will bring joy to the Father of us all.
