The baby was king of all heaven and earth.
The seers through the ages had foreseen his birth.
His heralds included a heavenly choir
Whose glad song and message the hearts did inspire
Of rough, seasoned shepherds, who, with one accord,
Set forth from their flocks in their search for their Lord.
They hastened to Bethlehem to find their king,
A baby wrapped cozily in swaddling.

His coming occasioned a heavenly flame,
A brilliant new star that shone forth to proclaim
A king’s birth, to wise men who dwelt in the East.
They traveled to Bethlehem, there not the least
Among Judah’s princes to find and behold,
Presenting their frankincense, myrrh, and their gold,
Their precious gifts, unto the young child, their king,
Back to their own country straightway departing.

The reason we celebrate Christmas today
Is that this small baby provided the way
For us to return to our Father above,
Through his pure example, submission, and love.
Compared to what he gave, our gifts may seem tiny,
However expensive or pretty and shiny.
Yet he will accept the small presents we bring
If they include this, that we follow our king.
