I learned to knit when I was about eleven. It took me until I was married with two children to graduate to sweaters, though I think my first pair of socks came before that. Knitting is calming and gives me something to keeps my hands busy.
Many years ago, after I had learned to knit, my grandmother told me about a woman she knew who was blind but able to knit. That concept fascinated me and I kept trying to get my fingers to see for me. Now I am able knit while joining in a conversation, watching a movie, and sitting in the dentist chair getting my teeth cleaned. Of course the patterns I choose for these activities are simple, repetitive, easy-to-remember ones.
